About the School
Britannica International School is the longest established British School in Hungary. We have also a thriving Primary department and offer classes to children from Year 1 (5 to 6 year olds) to Year 13 (17 to 18 year olds.) The foundation of our educational programme is the National Curriculum for England suitably enhanced to reflect our truly international nature. At the top end of the school, IGCSEs, AS and A2 Levels, provide graduating students with gold standard diplomas for entry to leading universities around the world including those at Oxford and Cambridge. Last year (2010) our IGCSE results were 36% ABOVE the UK national average and our A level grades have allowed last year’s Year 13 to enter many prestigious universities, both in Hungary and abroad. The school is a registered Cambridge International Examinations Centre and in 2011 the school became a full member of the Council of International Schools.
The New Campus
In July 2010 the school moved into an award-winning, custom-designed school building complex. It includes a 300 seat auditorium, a large gymnasium, an indoor swimming pool, two tennis courts and sizeable grounds. The classrooms are large (up to 50m2 and above), airy and bright and the school's resources were either brought from England or sourced locally. Our school has a library, art room, science laboratories and a computer room. There is full networked Internet access throughout the complex, via both cable and wireless, with many computers and data projectors used in classrooms around the school. All students use the computers during the week and interactive whiteboards are used in many secondary rooms as well as in all of the primary classrooms. The History of the School
Britannica International School was founded in 1994 by a group of distinguished educationalists. Britannica opened its doors as the first English secondary school in Budapest with full accreditation from the Hungarian Ministry of Education and the UK Qualifications and Curriculum Authority. Since then student and staff numbers have grown steadily.Britannica was located on the Buda side of the city in a school built in the 1960s. In the 2004-2005 academic year, to celebrate our tenth anniversary, further improvements were made to the school building and additional facilities were added. In 2008 the school computer network was upgraded and a new computer suite installed.
