School Curriculum

An enhanced version of the National Curriculum for England is offered by Britannica. We have added extra languages and made the curriculum more relevant to our Central European location and internationally diverse student body. Subjects are taught using a child-centred approach integrating practical activity and academic rigour.

The subjects currently offered include: English, Mathematics, Science, Information and Communication Technology, History, Geography, Art, Music, Physical Education, including Swimming and Hungarian, as a First or Second Language, In addition, students in Years 3-6 currently study French, whilst students in the secondary school have the opportunity to study French, German or Spanish.

Students aged from 14 to 16 study courses for 2 years which lead to examinations for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) of the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), usually taken at the age of 16. Students aged from 16 to 18 continue with the CIE Advanced Level diploma. Cambridge International Examinations is the world's largest provider of international qualifications for 14-19 year olds, and the Advanced Levels are a passport to university entry worldwide.

Those students who require support in English receive extra tuition either individually or in small groups while remaining in their mainstream class. Britannica uses high quality teaching resources purchased mainly from British suppliers. Homework plays an important part in our curriculum and so all students have work to do at home on a regular basis.
