Parent and Staff Association

Dear All

As Co-Chairs of the Parent School Association (PSA), we would like to take this opportunity to welcome all new, already familiar and prospective families to Britannica International School and explain what the PSA is all about as well as highlight the importance of getting involved in our organisation.

The PSA is all of us

The PSA is made up of parents and faculty working together in order to enrich the school experience for our students.  It is important to note that each parent / guardian will automatically become a member of the PSA.  In fact, all parents / guardians of our students, as well as faculty, are members of the PSA and are therefore encouraged to participate in its activities.

The PSA is led by a Committee, consisting of parents who volunteer their time to enhance the educational and social experience of every child in our school.  Members of the PSA Committee are:

  • Vera Meerstadt (Year 2 and 5)
  • Rita Kolozsi (Year 4 and 7)

Ways to get involved

Did you know that there have been more than 500 independent studies about parent involvement in school.  The results are startling.  When parents get involved in their children's education, grades and test scores go up, children become more likely to pass and attend better schools after high school, they have fewer discipline problems, and they are less likely to use drugs and alcohol.  At Britannica there are a number of ways to get involved:

Member of the PSA

All parents / guardians are automatically members of the PSA. This means that you are invited to attend our information sessions, which take place every second month. Faculty members are also present at this meeting.  You will receive information first hand and can use this platform to raise concerns or make other contributions regarding the education and school life of your child.

Become a Class Representative

We aim to have per group at least 2 Class Representatives. A Class Rep facilitates communication between parents and teachers, school administration and/or PSA and supports the teacher in needs that may arise.

Assist with organizing a specific event

Each year the PSA initiates and coordinates a range of activities and events. These activities and events are both educational as well as social. Examples of educational activities are Reading programs, extracurricular school trips and International Day. Social activities include coffee mornings, the annual Spring Fayre for the whole family, monthly cookie Fridays and Teacher Appreciation.

A lot of work is involved in the preparation and successful execution of these events. That's why we ask for the help of parents throughout the year.  As a volunteer you decide how much time or energy you can provide.  We have tasks that can be performed in the evenings or during the day, whilst some tasks do not even require coming to the school at all.  No matter where your talents lie or whether you have one hour or many to spare, we welcome your contribution!

Hope to welcome you soon at one of the upcoming events!

Kindest regards,

Vera and Rita
