Parent Staff Association

Dear Britannica International School (BIS) Families and Staff,

As President of the BIS Parent Staff Association (PSA) I want to welcome back all returning families and staff and give a big WELCOME to all new families and staff.  I am so proud and honored to be working with an amazing group of parents, school and support staff this year at BIS.

WHAT IS PSA?

PSA is a volunteer organization of parents lead by an Executive Committee (President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer) who work together with parents, BIS Senior Leadership and Staff, to enrich the school experience and advocate for our students.  Each parent/guardian/staff can become a member of PSA.  Simply email us and let us know you are interested in volunteering.  Also, let us know of any experience or talent you may have, or if you have a preference for a  specific event.

Please join us for one of our monthly meetings.  And every quarter we meet with the school senior leadership.  You may use this venue to raise concerns, volunteer, or make other suggestions regarding the education and advocacy of your child.  Notifications will be through FB or via email.  Our FB page is Britannica Budapest PSA and our email is psa@britannicaschool.hu.  Also, you may talk to one of us when you see us on campus.

PSA HOW TO GET INVOLVED.

For the PSA to be effective and truly representative of the school, everyone’s participation is essential. Many parents feel that they cannot participate in the PSA because they cannot come to meetings or be on campus during the day.  We want everyone to feel that they are part of the BIS Community.  Whether you have 30 minutes or a couple of hours, your ideas, your time, your talents and simply your VOICE is truly needed. We can match your time constraints and interests to needed tasks. There are endless possibilities in ways you can help.  For example, become a Class Representative.  A Class Representative facilitates communication between parents, teachers, school administration and PSA.  Within the first week of school Teachers will pulse you on whether you would like to be a class rep.  Our ultimate goal  is two class reps per class.  So please step up to the plate and say yes (Igen).   Also, you may consider assisting or chairing a PSA event/activity.  PSA initiates a range of events/activities throughout the school year.  Our big event for the fall time frame is International Day.  On this day parents represent their country by using static displays and providing food specialties for the school children and parents to experience.  There are also reading programs, extracurricular school trips and charity programs.  Social activities include coffee mornings, cookie Fridays, ice scream (cream) socials, teacher appreciation and the Annual Spring Fayre.  These events are both educational as well as social.  Much work and preparation is required for a successful event.  Please be on the alert for a call of support on these events/activities as the year progresses.

Keep in mind that by volunteering at our school, you will get to enjoy interacting with the kids, become friends with other parents, and accomplish things that truly make a difference. What better way to show our children how important they and their school are than by showing up.

Research shows that students whose parents are involved in their education have better grades and fewer discipline problems. We promise that the time you give to the PSA and the school will be worth your while—and fun! Please consider volunteering, it really does make a difference in the lives of all our students!

We would like to thank you in advance for your support.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.  Our Vision, Mission and Goals are attached here for your review.  Have a wonderful school year and we look forward to seeing you at our first PSA meeting in September, and remember to  "Bring Your Passion".

Respectfully,
